SLUMDOG MAKES ME PROUD

Finally the wait got over and I watched the most awaited movie Slumdog Millionaire. Although a lot of my friends already downloaded and watched the movie but the pleasure of watching it in the theater is something different. The movie is simply amazing. It is beautifully made and the toggling between the different time frames is shown really well. Im so proud that a movie on Amchi Mumbai is in the Oscars and so is our very own AR Rahman.
But it seems that the people of our country are not really happy about this fact. They are complaining as usual about the movie showing the bad picture of our country to the world. I think they fail to realize that this is not the bad picture but the real picture of India. The movie has clearly shown the various issues of our country which may not be known to these complaining people who lead their lives in AC offices, 5 star hotels and posh apartments and have no idea about the world outside.
It is the basic habit of us Indians to be complaining about anything and criticizing everything. After the 26th November terrorist attacks the whole of Mumbai began criticizing the politicians and the system, the Government, etc. They are the same people who will be taking the next flight to US or the UK or who will just busy themselves in earning money for themselves and their families but not even think of dirtying their hands in politics. But when it comes to criticizing anything they will be in the forefront.
My whole point is when India is being potrayed on an international level through a movie instead of being happy, people are just busy criticizing it. The other day this professor of mine went on to say that he hopes Slumdog Millionaire doesn’t win the Oscars because the director is British and according to him Britishers are always trying to show us low. It is really unfair to discriminate or stereotype people this way. And I think he forgot that the story of the movie has been adapted from a novel written by an Indian. Infact most Hollywood and American movies which get recognition are based on drugs which is their biggest issue. But I never hear them complaining like us for showcasing their issues to the world.
I agree everyone is entitled to their opinion but I hope they stop complaining and start appreciating more often. Else instead of just complaining and criticizing I hope they put a step forward to make a change themselves.
